This granita is the perfect way to celebrate the short (but sweet!) cherry season. A granita requires no special equipment like an ice cream maker. Instead, you simply freeze a liquid or puree in a shallow container and occasionally scrape it with a fork to achieve a fluffy, flaky consistency. I like to serve this granita in bowls or even shot glasses, topped with a dollop of real whipped cream and some lime zest.   1. Place all ingredients (except garnish) in blender with 1 cup cold water and blend to combine. Adjust sweetness to taste. Pour into shallow baking dish and freeze.2. Remove dish after 30 minutes, and scrape mixture with fork, breaking up icy clumps. Return to freezer. Repeat process every 30 minutes or so for next 2 hours, scraping mixture to break up ice crystals and create light and fluffy texture.3. Scoop granita into dessert bowls or glasses.
