America’s favorite snack? If you ask most of us, indulgent items like French fries, potato chips, and chocolate would probably be the top bets. Turns out, we’ve got it all wrong: The most popular nibble among noshers across the country is…fruit. That’s according to a new report from market research firm NPD Group. The report also notes that fresh fruit is chowed as a snack 10 times more per year than chocolate, which held down second place in the rankings. Plus, people enjoyed fruit around 15 times more than potato chips.  Snacks comprise around 20% of our daily food consumption, which suggests that Americans are eating heaps of fantastic fruit. But with a relative paucity of convenient, year-round options—apples, bananas, repeat—the report did make us wonder: Is there any alternative to fresh fruit? To find out, we’ve pitted frozen produce against fresh—and were shocked by what the numbers revealed. Check out our latest Health Food Face-Off for the results.  Questions? Comments?
